Since opening the first hotel in Union Square in 1982 Personality Hotels has grown to become San Francisco's largest privately-owned boutique hotel operator, with seven boutique hotels.

Yvonne Lembi-Detert

The Creator: President and CEO of Personality Hotels, Yvonne Lembi-Detert, made her mark as a pioneer of San Francisco boutique chic with the opening of the city's first boutique hotel. In 1982 she was enlisted to remodel and convert a pre-war hotel building into the Hotel Union Square. Since then the group has grown to become San Francisco's largest privately-owned boutique hotel operator. The group was originally called Hotel Group of America but Lembi-Detert renamed it after guests kept commenting how each hotel had 'so much personality and each one was so truly unique'.

New Hotels: In 2009 the group opened Hotel Vertigo and Hotel Frank.
