The
Profile: Philippe Starck has conquered the hotel design world. His is one of the most famous names in the business. More than anyone else he has changed the face of late 20th century and 21st century hotel design. Starck began his career as a product designer. However, his design career has seen him expand into interiors including
luxury hotels and restaurants. His industrial design background has taken him into the design and mass production of household objects - everything from toothbrushes and chairs have been 'Starcked'. Starck's achievements have been well recognised with numerous awards, including
Designer magazine's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award. |
The Style: His quirky signature style has become iconic. Starck's approach to his interiors can be compared to that of a film director where the interiors act as scenarios taking people from their everyday life into a creative and timeless world. When Starck takes on a project, whether it is the Felix restaurant at the top of The Peninsula Hong Kong, or the lobby of Le Meurice in Paris, he takes it ALL on. Starck is not only responsible for the general layout but also small design features such as light fittings and table lamps. |
