The Luxury Travel Bible is a bit charmed by the chutzpah of Luna2. Hovering somewhere between private villa and boutique hotel, it has declared its own category of 'private hotel'. Sandwiched on a chic Seminyak beachfront strip by the Oberoi and Sofitel, it has five bedrooms and a team of 23 staff - from award winning Chef de Cuisine Brenden Peace to masseuse and butler - headed by General Manager and Executive Chef, Danny Drinkwater (ex Executive Chef at Park Hyatt Sydney). Spa services? They can order them in. Bar? Operating all day if you want it. Dining? Whenever you want, where you want it. Drivers? Sure. There's also entertainment for the kids, including cooking (you'll thank them), art classes, horse-riding, boogie-boarding and soccer. Do we need to mention technology? They've got the latest.

Named after the first spacecraft to land on the moon, Luna2 also defies being boxed as Bali. Forgoing flash thatch, owner and interior designer Melanie Hall, in collaboration with US-based architect David Wahl of Wahl Architects, has created a retro-futuristic pad you can imagine Kubrick would have loved to touch down in. We're not sure how Marilyn Monroe exactly fits in with this style, but we do love the way her classic white dress image forms a beautifully tiled bottom for the 20 metres lap pool.

Traces of Bali can be found in the water features that surround the villa and the modern Buddha graphics, but Panton and Eames are more the beacons here. Kicks of colour in soft furnishings, mosaic tiles and feature wallpapers ignite the white-base surrounds - choose between a red, yellow, purple, green or orange bedroom. Yes, you can keep this all to yourself as your own private pleasure dome, but the team at Luna2 can also help you throw an event for up to around 150 guests. Party on!
