The Group: The logo of the group comes from the Banyan tree and is a fitting symbol because there is an Asian tradition of locals gathering under the cool leaves of its branches. Over time, the Banyan has come to symbolise shelter. Now, as the namesake suggests, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts offers 'rest and relaxation to the world-weary'. Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts prides itself on 'attentive yet discreet staff' and has made a name for itself creating luxurious resorts that are also ecologically sensitive. Once there, guests can expect to be offered culturely-sensitive experiences as well as the usual pampering. The luxury resorts will appeal to those who like to see themselves as responsible travellers but don't want to give up a comfortable bed to do so.
Ho Kwon Ping
Banyan Tree Spas located at each of the hotels and resorts. Designed to stimulate the senses on all levels the spas intended to complement the natural surroundings, often making use of local architectural styles and materials, as do the resorts. The focus is on holistic treatments based on traditional Eastern healing therapies. The spa treatments aim to awaken the senses of the guest to the 'splendour and serenity of the natural world ... making [guests] more receptive to the healing sense of touch'.

The Creator: The group was founded by Executive Chairman Ho Kwon Ping, and he still has responsibility for the group's overall management and operations. Born in Hong Kong, brought up in Thailand and educated in Taiwan, the USA and Singapore he has a wide world view.
Ho Kwon Ping is one of Singapore's best know and most successful businessmen who now controls a vast portfolio of companies as well as Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts but was a student activist in his youth. His wife, Claire Chiang once described him as 'a capitalist in his pocket and a socialist in his heart'.
It is these values that have helped him create his resorts with integrity, and with an eye on the environment they are built in and the people who live around them.
