HelpAWS Puppy Café, Saint Lucia

Puppies, cake and a good cause? Saint Lucia may just have created the perfect café.

A new café has opened with a wonderful purpose, to bring together great coffee, delicious treats and some very deserving four-legged guests.

Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet have joined forces with HelpAWS, Saint Lucia’s animal rescue organisation, to create the new HelpAWS Puppy Café. The beachside spot invites visitors to enjoy coffee, sandwiches, smoothies and desserts while getting to know some of the island’s rescue puppies.

All of the puppies at the café are part of the HelpAWS rescue programme and are available for adoption. So while you might arrive simply looking for an afternoon coffee, there’s every possibility you could leave having fallen head over heels for a new member of the family.

Better still, every purchase helps support HelpAWS, with a percentage of café sales contributing towards the organisation’s work rescuing, treating, feeding and rehoming stray and abandoned animals across Saint Lucia.

The partnership has a particularly personal connection for the Troubetzkoy family, who own Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet. HelpAWS was founded by Charlene Troubetzkoy, daughter-in-law of owner Karolin Troubetzkoy, and has grown into an important force for animal welfare on the island.

The resort has provided the location for the café, supported its construction and dedicated members of their hotel team to help with its operation.
Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet - HelpAWS Puppy Café
For Karolin Troubetzkoy, the initiative is as much about responsible tourism as it is about puppies.
'There is, of course, a very special family connection for me because HelpAWS was founded by my daughter-in-law Charlene. I have watched with enormous admiration as she and her team have built an organisation that has transformed the lives of so many animals. But our support for the Puppy Café is about much more than family. We genuinely believe in what HelpAWS is doing and in the importance of responsible animal welfare in Saint Lucia. At Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet, we have always believed that tourism should make a positive contribution to the island we call home, and this initiative fits beautifully with that philosophy. And there is something rather wonderful about giving our guests the opportunity to meet these puppies. They may come in for a coffee and a cuddle - and perhaps leave Saint Lucia having found a new member of the family.'

The Puppy Café is a charming addition to the Anse Mamin experience, but its appeal goes far beyond the novelty of enjoying your morning coffee alongside a litter of impossibly adorable puppies. Sometimes, responsible tourism doesn't need to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like ordering another slice of cake, buying a coffee and spending an afternoon cuddling a puppy who is looking for a forever home.
