LUXURY HOTELS PREVIEW: Coworth Park, Berkshire, England

The Luxury Travel Bible is loving  our first look at Coworth Park, Dorchester Collection's elegant new 70 room country house hotel and spa which opens today (27 September 2010).

We are especially fond of the  subtle modern take on the house's Georgian origins; take a look at that designer copper bath and  a four-poster that looks more like living trees than a  bed from a bygone era. But then the design is by Fox Linton & Associates who made The Grove, Hertfordshire and One Aldwych  in London look so special .

The hotel stands in 240 acres of royal Berkshire parkland surrounded by sunken gardens, a lime grove and English meadows. As befits its position on the outskirts of Ascot, bordering on Windsor Great Park there is more than a nod to all things horsey with  two polo fields and an equestrian centre. Guests also have special access to  the neighbouring Wentworth Club's three championship golf courses.

The spa, billed as 'eco-luxury', will be the world's first hotel spa to offer treatments by Dr. Alkaitis, renowned for his 100% organic, paraben free ingredients.  In addition those who already have favourite  products from Dorchester Collection's other hotel spas - Carol Joy London, Kerstin Florian and Aromatherapy Associates - will find them here too. There is also an indoor swimming pool (a wise addition given the British climate).

Three restaurants headed up by Michelin-starred Chef John Campbell, include a fine-dining restaurant in the Mansion House, a more informal restaurant in the converted barn and an outdoor terrace, and The Spatisserie.

Dorchester Collection's vision was 'to create the finest country house hotel in the UK', a big call in a country that has so many.  When we have a chance to check -in we'll let you know if they succeeded.  If  readers should get there before we do, TLTB recommends booking the jewel in the Coworth's crown,  The Dower House; a  private house built in 1775  which has its own dining room, lounge, kitchen, snug and a private garden with its own stream running through it which is home to Coworth Park's family of swans.
