GOURMET TRAVEL: Summer afternoon tea, st. eRMIN'S HOTEL

What could be better than enjoying Afternoon Tea during the glorious British summer?

Summer Afternoon Tea at St Ermin's Hotel is now available, serving a deliciously traditional selection of sandwiches and savoury and sweet treats. But, what makes this Afternoon Tea special is that the menu has been created to showcase the very best fresh produce of the season, taking inspiration from its own urban location with ingredients straight from the rooftop garden. St Ermin’s Hotel is home to 350,000 Buckfast Honey bees and the hotel produces its own honey which used in the Afternoon Tea.

The new Summer Afternoon Tea, served on a bird-cage inspired stand, has been created by Executive Head Chef, Alexander Boyd. Seasonal delicacies such as white chocolate and carrot choux buns, lemon macarons, chocolate and salted caramel pots, mango jelly and coconut panna cotta, apple and cinnamon mousse.

The Luxury Travel Bible recently enjoyed this delicious Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s stylish Tea Lounge, located up from the lobby via the hotel’s iconic stairs. Of course, as you would expect from a luxury hotel, the Afternoon Tea is delicious but one of the highlights (apart from the Apple and Cinnamon Mousse) was how wonderfully friendly the service was. Our server was so attentive and helpful (and ensured our glass of Prosecco was regularly topped up, which is very important to TLTB!).

If the weather suits, guest can also enjoy the Summer Afternoon Tea alfresco on the new London Essence Summer Terrace. The beautiful terrace overlooks the treelined courtyard of the hotel and, is wonderfully secluded from the street despite being in central London.

Little Luxies have been very well catered for at St Ermin’s Hotel this summer. The gardening-inspired ‘Mini Gardener Afternoon Tea' menu includes kid-friendly ‘ham and cream cheese’, ‘Egg mayonnaise’ and ‘Nutella’ sandwiches, mini scones with jam and cream and sweet delights such as Apple mousse and a Chocolate and caramel pot. As with the adult version, the menu has been inspired by and includes ingredients from the rooftop garden.

Making their afternoon even more special, Little Luxies will be able to go on their own little adventure and visit the bees on the third floor Bee Terrace.  To keep their interest in gardening (and a memento of the experience), all Little Luxies will receive a gardening pack from Mud & Bloom which include organic seeds to take home.

Summer Afternoon Tea is served daily 12noon – 6:00pm. Prices: Summer Afternoon Tea £29pp, with unlimited prosecco £35pp or with a glass of Nyetimber Champagne £42pp. Children’s Mini Gardener Afternoon Tea, £15pp available during the school holidays and at weekends.

LUXURY FACTS: On average 25lb of honey is produced by the St Ermin’s Hotel bees each year, and they are helped by the bee-friendly flora at the hotel and in the surrounding royal gardens and parks.
