HIGH FLYER: QSuites, qatar airways

THE ROUTE : DOHA TO LONDON

Qatar Airways’ Qsuite promises the ultimate privacy and it delivers. At one point during my DOH-LHR flight I woke from my deep sleep and felt so cocooned within my Qsuite that it genuinely took me a few moments to realise where I was and I did slightly worry if any other passengers were even still on the flight such was the feeling of being in my own little world.

When I realised that I was still flying high over Europe I knew I still had plenty of the flight left to enjoy the wonderful Qatar Airways’ Business Class.

The Qsuites experience was special from the moment I boarded the plane. While I settled down in my Qsuite my friendly flight attendant, who would be looking after me throughout my flight, came to introduce himself and quickly returned with my pre-departure glass of Charles Heidsieck champagne and a pair of The White Company pyjamas (very comfy!) .

I was given a quick run through of the operation of my Qsuite in order to get the full luxury experience, (the important things such as how to convert my chair into the fully flat bed, how to close my suite door and where the ‘Do Not Disturb’ button was).

I was flying solo so really did appreciated this privacy but for couples, Qatar Airways’ Qsuite have the travel industry’s first-ever double bed in Business Class allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room. Seats can also be configured into a ‘Quad’ to allow four family members or colleagues to be together during their flight. This is the innovation that makes Qatar Airways stand out from the crowd.

The Qsuites have been extremely well thought out as they feel very spacious and yet everything is always close to hand when required. The layout of the pod means that even when the bed is fully flat there is still space and the  positioning of sockets and cupboards has been given so much time and thought making them very user friendly and practical.

The Qsuites and the business class cabin look great - very stylish with curved edges, detailing, ambient mood lighting and complimentary colours and textures. Adding to the style and comfort are the amenity kits by Iconic French Perfumer, Diptyque.

The luxury Amenity kits include Nourishing Lip Balm (enriched with roses and violets to soothe and soften the lips), Body Lotion (infused with the scent of orange blossoms, to refresh sleepy skin) and nourishing and replenishing Face Cream (with prickly pear extract to boost radiance). The airline will offer the signature ‘34 Boulevard Saint Germain’ Eau de Toilette or ‘Eau Rose’ Eau de Toilette inside each amenity kit. .

The technology within my Qsuite was appreciated, with its large TV screen (Oryx One Qatar Airways’ in-flight entertainment system has up to 4,000 entertainment options including Hollywood movies, TV box sets, music and games), ambiance mood lighting and plenty of universal power points, USB, HDMI and NFC capabilities.

My flight attendant had previously asked when and how I wanted to dine and because the menu was so extensive and delicious sounding I opted to dine as soon as possible. The tasting menu featuring delights such a Baba Ghanoush and Chicken Shawarma was top end restaurant-quality. It felt very indulgent when I was brought both dessert options when I was unsure which one to go for – both the panna cotta and the chocolate tart were delicious.

Operating a ‘dine on demand’ system, dining in the Qsuites is available at any point in the flight and the ‘Stadium Snacks’ such as battered cod and chips or Beef Burgers are a great option if you wake up peckish or want a snack while you watch a movie.

It was clear that the crew had quickly established the needs of each passenger and the level of attention that they would require. The friendly service I received was flexible and attentive without being intrusive - which is exactly what I was looking for on this night flight.

Qatar Airways’ business class is renowned and rightly so. It’s recent haul of awards include Airline of the Year (the only airline to be awarded this for a record seventh time), World's Best Business Class, Best Business Class Airline seat, Best Business Class Lounge Dining and Best Cabin Crew in the Middle East at the 2022 World Airline Awards (very well deserved in The Luxury Travel Bible’s opinion).

A flight in a Qsuite is an unforgettable experience. This level of style, privacy, service and comfort is what luxury travel should be all about.
