The Savoy London

The Savoy (another Fairmont managed hotel) is a London icon. It was here at a reception that the future Queen Elizabeth's relationship with Prince Philip became public. The Monet Room is where the French Impressionist painted over 70 canvasses of London and the Thames River. War time leader Winston Churchill also regularly lunched with his cabinet and entertained international allies in the Grill (Gordon Ramsay's newest domain). Most significantly in March 1943 the finance and foreign affairs ministers of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg met here to discuss the notion of a post-war customs union – that would enable free trade (and travel) between the three countries. The economic union of Benelux was created – the precursor perhaps to the single market, single currency philosophies of today's 27-member European Union. Adjacent to the famous Savoy Theatre, the legendary central London hotel will reopen its doors on October 10 following one of the most ambitious renovations in its history.  All 268 guestrooms and suites and public areas have been redesigned (while preserving its standout Edwardian and Art Deco features) by Pierre-Yves Rochon (George V in Paris and L'Hotel Hermitage, Monaco) at a cost of over £100 million. The hotel will also break new ground with services that will remove check in or check out hassles and the need to sign restaurant or bar bills. Suite guests will also be happy to see the hotel's renowned butler service return.
