The bucolic, medieval charm of the Chateau de Castel-Novel, set between Correze and the Dordogne, wooed the writer Collette who wrote: "Everything is too beautiful, I am quite drunk". At the time the chateau was owned by her husband, who was Editor-In-Chief of Le Matin, Collette lived and brought up her daughter here amongst the centuries-old rose bushes and wild orchids. Today you can stay in her room and overlook the achingly beautiful countryside that inspired novels like Le Ble en Herbe and Cheri.
