We've been looking forward to this one for a while. This one has been causing excitement in the office ever since a picture of a tiny island, no more than a sliver of and in an endless ocean - slipped into our mailboxes earlier this year.
Anantara opened its first Mozambique hotel in 2013.. Now we have the newly opened Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa, Anantara's second resort in the region.
More white sand, more sapphire clear water, more luxury. We like.
The bijoux 12-villa resort is located on a small island in the Quirimbas Archipelago - a group of 32 islands stretching over 250 kilometres - in the north of the country. All the villas which take full advantage of the amazing pristine setting as the Quirimbas Archipelago, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with coral reefs and waters that are a sanctuary for sea turtles, dolphins and whales as well as tropical fish. Perfect for diving, snorkelling and water sports of all kinds.
We can imagine the scene already; silvery sand sands sifting through our toes as we stroll along a pristine beach lapped by the turquoise Indian Ocean, poolside sun loungers warm swims in the pool , dips in the ocean, spas, cocktails at sunset in the beach bar ... in fact we're there already.
The luxury Travel Bible has these experiences on our Anantara wish list:
- A Sunset cruise aboard a traditional dhow
- Asignature Anantara treatment in the spa
- A private picnic at nearby Quissanga Island
- Afternoon tea in the Loft Lounge with sweeping views of the bay and glorious Indian Ocean.
Despite the idyllic isolation it only 45-minute flight from Pemba International Airport to reach the Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa. Pemba International Airport has domestic links to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, and international links to Johannesburg, South Africa and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
The first resort, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa, opened in December 2013 and good things comes in threes they say. So wait, there's more. A third resort 24-villa resort on Matemo Island is currently being renovated and will open as Anantara Matemo Island Resort next year.
