Caravelle Hotel, Ho Chi Minh |
During the 1960s and 1970s the Caravelle Hotel was 'home' to the war correspondents of the world. Many filed their news reports from atop the hotel and after wards retired to the roof top bar for a bevy or two. For a short time the hotel was also home to the Australian and New Zealand embassies. In 2009 at the hotel's 50 year celebrations Pulitzer prize winning journalist Peter Arnett said "On three occasions - the overthrow of Ngo Dinh Diem in '63, the Tet Offensive in 1968, and the fall of Saigon -- I was watching here at the Caravelle". Its history is more exciting than its 'business hotel style' rooms but The Caravelle is a good, comfortable five star base. Luxury Loves
The old reporter vibe.
