Top Ten Luxury
Montepulciano, Tuscany

The Luxury Travel Bible is prepared to drop to its knees in praise of a hill town that combines two of its favourite things - a good red and a view. Especially one that has been serving up both for centuries. Records show that Montepulciano has been exporting wine since around 1350 with Pope Paul III's cellarmaster declaring them "most perfect, fit for gentlemen" in 1549. The red the town is most happy to suckle its reputation on is Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. And we are too. Mind you, we won't say no to Rosso di Montepulciano on a dry day either. Hence, The Luxury Travel Bible is content to prop itself up for an afternoon in any of the neat enotecas that line street corridors and sample the local blends. The second weekend of any month is a particular favourite when a small group of exhibitors (around 50) form an Antique Fair market. Photos: Alex Pears.
