Often known as Alta Igloo Hotel, this is the 11^th year that the Nords are recreating this snow stay near the banks of the Alta River at the edge of the Arctic Circle. Reindeers are a big feature here - both as furry pelts that swathe beautifully carved pieces of ice furniture and on the traditional menu in the restaurant. A snowmobile safari allows you to capture the epic wonder of the desert-like snowscape of this northern region. Groups of more than eight can sleep the night out in it inside a Lavvo - a traditional Sami tent. You can also try your hand at ice fishing while you wait for dinner to be cooked.
