Leonardo DiCaprio’s new eco-resort aims to marry DiCaprio’s interests as an eco –campaigner with a sense of Cubist style. Opening second half of 2018 , the retreat claims to be ‘the world’s leading example of green hospitality’, completely powered by renewable energy, with water sourced from collected rain. The first of the Restorative Islands projects that aim to “put you mind at ease and remind you whqt it is to be human”. Set on a private island covered in mango trees, half of which will be a private wildlife reserve, Dotted with mango trees, and surrounded by coral and colourful fish of the Caribbean Sea. The project will contain a world-class luxury hotel resort centred on health, wellness and sustainability, off-the-grid ‘living homes’ a research station on climate change and habitat impacts, leading restoration programs and more. There is already a huge operation underway to replant native trees. Jason McLennon, architect and founder of the Living Building Challenge, was commissioned by DiCaprio to design a 68-villa eco-resort . The Cubist style is hipster meets Central America: artwork is inspired by the Mayan civilisation. There will also be white loungers surrounding infinity-edge pools, and patios for picking up ocean breezes. Luxury Links
