W is known for producing the kind of design seen in stylish boutique hotels but on a grander scale and W Retreat & Spa Goa had Anthony Ingham, W Hotels’ brand leader especially excited when we spoke recently. W Hotels always have a good story to tell and W Retreat & Spa Goa doesn’t disappoint. The new resort marks the arrival of the W brand in India. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Chapora Fort, and the dramatic red cliffs, soft, sands of Vagator the beachfront Retreat is spread over 21 acres. Slated for a June opening the hotel has some spectacular design elements. Expect to enter through an infinity pool on the roof, with floating pods, views overlooking jungle and ocean and elements of stone used in the building that echo the nearby black rocks and the stone of the 400 year old fort above you. Meanwhile beach villas have a shuttered, colonial feel, like the local houses draped in fuchsia flowers. The hotel managed to channel laid-back Sixties Goa and incorporate it into a modern-day cool. This could be our favourite W design-wise since W Retreat & Spa Vieques Island. Luxury Loves
