Chateau Yering, Victoria |
This historic five-star country estate in Victoria's premier wine country was one of the first vineyards to produce wines in the new colony, and the former family-home itself has a long history of hosting lavish parties and social events. A luxury hotel since 1997, the Relais & Chateaux member (since 2001) continues to draw a steady stream of visitors to the region year round, especially food and wine lovers eager to fine dine at the award-winning Eleonore's Restaurant. Chef Mathew Macartney dishes up a tantalising seasonal menu using local produce. The region is an epicure's paradise producing some of the county's best pinot noir and sparkling wines, as well as a smorgasbord of organic fruits and vegetables, handmade cheeses, pastas, preserves, chocolates, game meats and freshwater fish. Where better to relax after a day exploring than in one of the Chateau's 32 spacious country-style suites, elegantly furnished with antiques, some with private balconies, spa baths, open log fires and romantic four-poster beds.
