Top Ten Luxury
XV Beacon, Boston, USA

In this hotel numbers game does it matter if the numerals are Roman? The Luxury Travel Bible decides no when it comes to XV Beacon. It reclines gracefully in the kind of 'masculine' femininity that a modern day Katherine Hepburn, Babe Paley or Slim Keith would happily slip into. Beyond its Beaux-Arts exterior, an original cage-enclosed elevator shuttles you to 63 bedrooms that assuredly mix comfortable classic pieces in taupe, espresso and cream with custom Frette linens, fresh flowers and curl-up-around gas fireplace. Mooo restaurant follows a similar theme serving contemporary takes on traditional fare from Beef Wellington to steak frites. The dining chairs are loungey, with some high-backed wing chairs scattered throughout the room adding intimacy. However, if you're a slightly guilty non-vegetarian you will have to try very hard not to be put off by the baby cow's face with velvet eyes staring back at you from a black and white photograph emblazoned on the wall.

The rooftop at night - no, it's not Manhattan but it's sparkling, and the complimentary Lexus sedan that will ferry you around.
