At the foot of Prague Castle, a 13th century haven of monastic devotion is now a 21st Century luxury hotel thanks to the creative stylings of Rocco Forte's Director of Design, his sister, Olga Polizzi. The Augustine is the second monastery in Prague to get such an illustrious make-over, and it has several unusual features that make it stand out. Firstly, when it comes to Rapunzel-like fairytale towers, it's hard to go past The Augustine's Tower Suite.Located in the monastery's original astronomical tower, the three-storey, stand-alone tower is a cosy haven where you can enjoy panoramic views across the rooftops of Prague from your private turret.
Those with an eye for the unusual will also like The Augustine's underground Brewery Bar. Once the cellar of the original St. Thomas Brewery, the atmospheric bar comes complete with 17th Century stalagmites and stalactites and serves a modern St. Thomas Beer and Czech-style tapas.
With 101 bedrooms, the historic collection of buildings may now be devoted to all things elegant, but it is still home to several practicing friars who live in an adjacent building and can often be seen going about their daily rituals on the Monastery grounds.
The Rocco Forte Collection is doing great things withboutique hotels - love your work Rocco.
