Granted, at a glance the classic white wood and grey cross-paned cabins might seem so Nantucket, but stare out and look around into the wildness of the eucalypt strewn ridges and streams. This is the part of the world that inspired Banjo Paterson to write "The Man from Snowy River" back in 1896. Much of the landscape that Nimbo Fork immerses you in remains unbroken, except for inclusions of a few of the private passions of its creators - Chris Fehon, an ex-global head of commodities with Citigroup and his wife Maureen. The Lodge here combines Chris' devotion to fly fishing and Maureen's trained eye in interior design to immerse you in a refined wilderness retreat. Choose between rooms in the main lodge building or one of six cabins with verandahs overlooking the Tumut River where fly fishers can sit back and dream of their next catch. This region is teeming with trout as well as some of the world's best at catching them and Nimbo Fork is one of the most luxurious entry points for mingling with both.
Spa services are another unexpected extra.
While the Lodge is first and foremost about fly fishing (they even have a store), there is also an appreciation of fine food - both in the menu and wines offered daily as well as chef-led culinary classes.
