After picking apart the tired Olympic Palace Hotel, which was built in the heart of modern Athens in 1958, New Hotel Athens has been restructured, piece-by-piece, without anything being discarded. Right throughout the chunky modernist building, chairs and doors salvaged from the old property reappear as masterful artworks that prick guests' senses. In the public lounges, incredible tree-like sculptures have been crafted lovingly from a jumble of different coloured woods. Thanks to help from a creative group of Greek postgraduate students, public areas are now full of unusual chair-art hybrids, left over from the previous hotel.
A property turned into a true Gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art.
