If a member of the desert Raj decided to build a palace in 2009, this newly built mud fort is what it might look like. The owners have poured all their experience from running Rohet Garh into this contemporary take on royal glamour. The result is relaxed and intimate with loads of cushioned nooks to curl up for quiet moments in. There are nine suites, six double rooms and three twins - all are oversized (more than 1700 square feet, 158 square metres) and some include plunge pools and Jacuzzi. Large terraces offer long romantic views of the desert. The equestrian centre stabled with the finest Marwari horses allows you to make like Lawrence of Arabia and ride out into it. Yoga and village safaris are just some of the other specialties on offer, but this kind of palace will do much to encourage lying back with a gin at sunset.
