Fusing the austere Gothic with chic modern design, the Kruisherenhotel, located in the very centre of Maastricht, opens straight into the inner shell of a 15th century monastery. Uninhabited since 1979, the monastery's transformation is embodied by a spectacular polished copper entrance tunnel designed by the renowned designer Ingo Maurer. The choir of the church serves as set for the intimate wine bar and guests are served breakfast on the newly installed mezzanine while taking in views of Maastricht. Located in the former cloister and gatekeeper's lodge, each of the hotel's 60 rooms contains a specially designed object of art.
