Top Ten Luxury
Kruisheren Hotel, Maasrticht, Netherlands

The golden glow of a polished copper tunnel is not the usual way you enter a gothic church, unless of course you're a guest at the Netherland's Kruisheren Hotel in Maastricht. Established in 1438, the church and monastery were once home to the Order of the Crutched Friars, but after a 21st century make over, the monastery has been resurrected as a luxury hotel that now pays homage to the gods of interior design. Marc Newson, Piet Heyn Eeck, Roderick Vos and Philippe Starck all had a hand in this ethereal hotel's creation, turning the cloistered corridors and high vaulted ceilings into a haven of innovative design.  TLTB loves the manicured monastery gardens, the glass elevator connecting the church and the monastery, and the glass-fronted, Michelin-star restaurant in the nave of the church.
