Hotel Des Academies Et Des Arts, Sixth Arrondissement

This 20 room hotel represents the best in Left Bank art chic without any of the typically distressed charm. Pitched just down the road from where Modigliani lived it is also across the road where artists - everyone from Gaugin to poet and musician, Serge Gainsbourg - studied. The hotel pays homage to art with Jerome Mesnager's 'White Bodies' artist figures that have been painted climbing and crawling over many of the walls, pieces by sculptor Sophie Watigant and a video art room that screens the work of artists. The rooms may be small, but they are perfectly formed in three varying sizes with the largest - Superior Room - being 194 square feet (18 square metres). There are four different styles across the categories, including 'Comedienne' that celebrates 1920s actress Kiki of Montparnasse in a riot of red with a quilted bedhead and showgirl curtains. The Man Ray style pays tribute to the classic black and white style of Picasso's famous photographer friend. Five star-style treatments such as Payot beauty treatments and the service is immaculate.
