Hotel Daniel, Eighth Arrondissement

If Marie Antoinette married Rudyard Kipling and they were transported into the 21st century, they might come up with the kind of pretty that inhabits Hotel Daniel. Wrapped in Toile and hand-painted wallpapers in rose, almond greens and dove that unite Paris with the Far East, the furnishings are no less exotic. Oriental carpets are piqued with delicate desks framed in bamboo. Wooden boxes, nightstands and chairs are inlaid with mother of pearl. With 26 individually decorated rooms, including seven suites, the restaurant is one of the few break-out spaces in the hotel. Sitting in the silky banquettes with tea and champagne being served all through the day it is easy to never leave. With everything willing you to be transported back to another time, it is WiFi and in-room iPods along with the shopping to be done on the Champs-Elysees that bring you back into the now.

The Willow pattern teacups, the Dead Sea bath salts, the patterned fabrics that paint journeys into old Cairo, Siam and the world of Kipling, need we go on?
