Hotel Cipriani & Palazzo Vendramin, Venice, Italy

Starring Role: Casino Royale

Newly promoted to 00 status, James Bond (Daniel Craig) takes on his first mission in Casino Royale. Much of Craig's first Bond film (and the 21st in the series) was shot in the Czech Republic, key scenes were set in Venice, and the cast and crew did descend on the canal-side city for a few days of filming. The Venetian hotel in which Bond and Vesper are supposed to be staying was actually a building in Prague, but the shots of them sailing their yacht along the Grand Canal, between the Accademia and Rialto bridges, is 100 per cent Venice. The part of this sequence in which the boat is docked was filmed at the Hotel Cipriani's private dock, just next to the alfresco Cip's Terrace Restaurant, overlooking the Grand Canal; the crew rented the entire terrace for the shoot of this scene and others along the Canal. Some of the actors and filmmakers also stayed at the Hotel Cipriani during the shoot, with Craig bunking in the Palazzo Vendramin section of the hotel, in room 76 - a beautiful suite with views of St. Mark's Square. Restaurant Manager, Adamello Bianco, recalls the friendly actor dining at Cip's three times during his stay, while Head Barman, Walter Bolzonella, remembers Craig and co-star Eva Green coming in to the Fortuny Bar for a drink. When the bartender offered the actor a Bond-style Vesper Martini, Craig replied, For once in my life, I will have a Bellini!

The hotel offers a popular 'Venice: A Movie Dream' walking tour, which takes guests to spots all over the city that were featured in both classic and contemporary films.
