If you've ever been captured by the mysterious maze of old Beijing backstreets, then DuGe hotel is your opportunity to step through those old wooden doors and experience the courtyard style living that was afforded the city's elite. However, it is difficult to say whether your stay will remove the veil of silk shrouding old China as DuGe offers more flights into fantasy. Named after an owner with a passion for preserving the past, much of the design seems to take all that was into beautiful new directions. There are 10 suites, each following a highly embellished theme such as layers of jewel rich colours in The Tibetan Kingdom and the deep lacquer red and black of The Oriental. While the hotel might be relatively pocket size, it hasn't stopped them offering services that include The White Russian Bar and Reflections Restaurant, and you don't need to hold back on 24 hours room service - including booking an insuite massage.
