Another British institution, historic Cliveden House, which has previously hosted monarchs and some of the biggest names in politics, literature and entertainment (including Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, US President Roosevelt and George Bernard Shaw) also happily opens its doors to small dogs. All you need for a relaxing and pampered getaway is here from doggie treats, cosy dog basket and special menu. They can also arrange dog sitting and dog walking but bring your own leash because the Cliveden's location is one of the great things about it.  Your puppy's fine breeding will be tested once you open the front door  because on the doorstep of this magnificent 300-year-old former hunting lodge there are over 250 acres of National Trust parkland paths to explore (and no doubt a few feral rabbits to chase).
