War, corruption and the passage of time
once nearly destroyed this 14th Century monastery, but it was reborn
in 1969 as a luxury boutique hotel thanks to the passion and vision of Anna
Grossi Recordati, whose family still inhabit the property today.
While the once barren cells of the monastery are now adorned with the plush
comforts of 21st century luxury, the hotel has been sensitively
renovated to retain the meditative air of this once holy place.
Located in the Tuscan countryside just one kilometre away from the city of
Siena, the sprawling six acre property became a Relais & Châteaux hotel in
1978.
