The Luxury Travel Bible - LUXURY CRUISE: Hollywood at Sea

LUXURY CRUISE: Hollywood at Sea
To be stuck at sea with a shipload of Hollywood impersonators may sound like your vision of Hell but we're not talking fat Elvis imitators and second rate cruising here. We're talking the luxurious Crystal Cruises and a very select band of theatrical leading lights. Forget the Oscars, Crystal Symphony is setting sail on its very own tribute to Hollywood in November 2013.
The Hollywood gala sailing is presented in partnership with the award-winning Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles. Highlights will include a special spotlight on Marilyn Monroe, one of the industry's most legendary blonde bombshells. Internationally acclaimed Monroe tribute artist, Susan Griffiths, will bring her uncanny talent to sea for the first time with a new cabaret show created exclusively for Crystal.
A multi-course dinner in the ship's Vintage Room will be hosted by 'Marilyn Monroe' (Griffiths) and Marilyn fan club president, Greg Schreiner, sharing tales of Tinseltown and the star's life.

Other Hollywood highlights include actor Jim Brochu's newest tribute to some of Broadway's greatest character actors, including Jackie Gleason. Original costumes from some of Hollywood's greatest films will be showcased in a special musical theatre production created just for Crystal, featuring Broadway veteran Karen Morrow. While LA's Troubador Theatre Company will perform a satirical Shakespeare-meets-cinema-disco musical theatre performance of 'Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream'. The mind boggles.

The cruise will also offer behind the scenes insights from actress Kate Burton, the daughter of Richard and the current U.S. vice-president on hit TV show 'Scandal' and Center Theatre Group's artistic director Michael Ritchie will provide tales from the show business frontlines. Red carpet make-up artist William Squire will share celebrity beauty secrets including revealing ways in which Marilyn hid flaws and enhanced her beauty to create her signature style.

The ship's recently-redesigned Hollywood Theatre will feature movie marathons of classic and recent films, including some of Marilyn's greatest hits, with Turner Classic Movies film historian Jeremy Arnold providing fascinating behind-the-scenes commentary. And if you don't want to leave the luxury of your cabin an in-stateroom television channel will broadcast classic motion pictures and theatre documentaries throughout the voyage.   There will even be interactive trivia games for guests to show off their film fanaticism.

The November 2 2013, 14-day East Coast and Caribbean itinerary visits New York, Baltimore, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Turks & Caicos, Curaçao, Aruba and Miami.
