The Luxury Travel Bible - LUXURY CHALET: Chalet V

LUXURY CHALET: CHALET V, SWITZERLAND

It had only been a couple of hours since arriving at the stunning Chalet V but, as we were relaxing with glasses of local wine, I was already feeling right at home and we were being treated like old friends by the owners/hosts Patrick and Zoe, and Chef Nico.

Independently owned Chalet V is located on Plateau de Villy which has a micro-climate of over 300 sunny days a year and panoramic views over the Rhône valley and the Alps.  Having originally been built as a home for Patrick and Zoe it is evident that a lot of care has been put into the design and style of the chalet with the attention to detail of the utmost quality and thought.

Chalet V has been designed in a traditional style featuring the use of wood and natural stone, the chalet is spread over four floors (a lift also offers access to each floor). The five-bedroom chalet can sleep up to 12 guests, with various sleeping arrangements (including a bedroom with two sets of bunk beds which is perfect for the Little Luxies).

Chalet V has a very strong sense of identity. I absolutely loved all the stylish touches across the chalet such as the striking artwork commissioned by Patrick and Zoe, to V branded cushions, towels, bathrobes and even coat hangers.

The open-plan living area is where people naturally came together in the evenings around the roaring open fire to discuss and reflect on the day. Located in the corner is a very well stocked complimentary drinks trolley to help yourself to a pre- or post-dinner drink.

By day the dining area is beautifully bathed in natural light and offers views of the mountains, by night the area is full of ambiance from the spectacular Bocci Light feature of 50 light orbs (in total it weights 100kg) that hangs grandly over the dining table.

Chalet V is available on a self-service basis, but The Luxury Travel Bible would recommend, for the ultimate luxury stay, the full catered option. The team will consult with guests ahead of their stay to design a suitable menu and all the meals, expertly created by Chef Nico, were extremely creative and delicious.

Each night we were served a beautifully presented four-course meal, and then at the end of each meal service the trio slipped away with us hardly noticing, before returning the next morning to prepare a delicious and hearty breakfast. The level of service is special; attentive with nothing being too much trouble yet also unassuming and never intrusive.

The luxurious touches (all thoughtfully chosen by Zoe) throughout Chalet V will appeal to any TLTB reader. Just a few examples of this are the welcome chocolates with a personalised message, Tiffany & Co toiletries in the bathroom, stylish tableware (I don’t think we were ever served on the same style plate or wine glass twice during my stay) and vintage Hermès cutlery. There really is everything available to make your stay memorable.

Chalet V is a three-minute drive to ski resort La Tzoumaz, which is part of Verbier – 4 Vallées. From La Tzoumaz, which has a village-like feel, the Savoleyeres Gondola will take skiers up the mountain or onto Verbier. Chalet V owns a parking spot and private ski room at the entrance of the gondola which guests are free to use. For those without their own car, guests of Chalet V also have access to In-Resort Driver service in a new eight-seater Van (at an additional charge).

Chalet V also has plenty to offer outside of winter sports. This makes it an ideal chalet for non-ski days or for a group of skiers and non-skiers (as my party this week was).

I quite happily spent a day at the chalet indulging in the sauna, swimming in the outdoor heated swimming pool, time in the hot tub and relaxing on a lounger while taking in the mountain views. My afternoon got even better when Zoe appeared with a bottle of champagne for me to enjoy a glass while relaxing.

Beside the pool is where I found possibly my favour piece of art within the chalet. A vintage cable car which Zoe has had refurbished so that the interior resembles a Chanel handbag - so chic! Of course, this is the perfect spot for a little Instagram-worthy photoshoot!

A TV room, table tennis table, karaoke machine and retro pinball machine are available for guests’ down-time, but it is perfectly acceptable to just sit by the open fire, curled up on the sofa with a good book. Chalet V also has a very well stocked wine cellar, curated by Patrick and Zoe.

Chalet V is bookable via The Chalet Edit which offers a complimentary in-house concierge service to guests. The Chalet Edit can arrange services such as English-speaking nannies, transfers, in-chalet massages (I can honestly say that the one I had at Chalet V is probably the best massage I have had in a long time), ski gear hire and skiing lessons as well as more memorable add-ons such as in-chalet wine tasting, heli-skiing or husky dog sledding.

Chalet V is a beautiful chalet with wonderful amenities, located in a great ski resort, but what truly makes it stand out is the kind, warm and five-star hospitality. You can see how determined the trio of hosts are, and how hard they work as a team, to ensure that every guest has the best time they possibly can during their stay.

Sadly, all good things must come to end and as we were saying our goodbyes to Chalet V, and our wonderful hosts, Patrick declared ‘The good thing about leaving is that you can always come back’.

With such luxury, hospitality and comfort it is clear to see why Chalet V deserves many return visits.
