If you’ve ever had to queue to get that “Isolated sunset shot” in popular Santorini you won’t be surprised that new research reveals that Santorini BEATS Mykonos as the most Instagrammable Greek island, with nearly 8 million hashtags on Instagram. More surprising is that Mykonos comes in third behind Crete, which ranks in second place, with over 6.1 million hashtags. Who would have thought it? Travel experts at Kinglikeconcierge.com examined Instagram hashtag data for over 50 Greek islands to establish the most popular and Instagrammable. Thanasis Mougios from www.kinglikeconcierge.com which has a curated collection of villas in Greece, commented: 'Social media has a profound influence on people, and now has become a vital factor when researching holiday destinations'. So which other islands rate?
1. Santorini took the top spot in the findings with 7,828,338 posts containing Santorini-related hashtags, more than any other Greek island. Santorini is known for its myriad of coloured beaches caused by volcanic rocks on the island and its blue dome churches. 2. The second most Instagrammable Greek island is Crete. Crete has over 6,152,737 posts with hashtags relating to the island. The island is the largest of all Greek islands and boasts unique coastlines and rich architecture and is home to important cultural sites such as the Minoan settlements, which explains the vast number of posts.
3. Mykonos ranks third, with 5,426,554 posts containing Mykonos-related hashtags. Besides its Cycladic architecture and sandy beaches, the island is known for its party scene, attracting celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid.

4. Kos is the fourth most Instagrammable island, which has 2,817,622 posts containing Kos-related hashtags. The island is known for its crystal-clear waters and golden sand beaches.
5. Rounding out the top five is Rhodes, which has 2,514,587 posts with Rho des-related hashtags. Rhodes, also known as ‘Knights Island’, is home to the Medieval Old Town, which has been declared a World Heritage Site, which has allowed it to become a popular tourist destination in Europe and can explain the large number of posts using Rhodes related hashtags.
6. In sixth place is Corfu, one of Greece's most popular holiday destinations. The island has 2,348,893 posts containing Corfu-related hashtags. The island is home to countless beaches and secret coves.
7. Zakynthos in seventh place with 1,304,017 posts containing related hashtags. Zakynthos is best known for its beautiful, sandy beaches and for the picturesque Shipwreck Cove. It’s also home to the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtle.
8. Zante in eighth place with 1,115,256 posts, The island is often counted among the most visited Greek destinations, with its unique turquoise waters and breathtaking beaches and reputation as a serious party island.
9. Paros in ninth place with 1,032,217 posts. Known for its Mykonos-like cobbled streets and white buildings, with less partying and less crowds.
10. Hydra with 1,008,231 posts containing related hashtags. Practically every celebrity worth knowing has set foot on Hydra at some time or other. Especially in the 60s when it became a hang-out for the rich and bohemian.
