If you REALLY fancy getting away from it all, there really is nothing better than your own private island. Thanda Island, located in the Indian Ocean, will open its doors (should that be shores?) from April 2016.

The villa, owned by Swedish entrepreneur and philanthropist couple Christin and Dan Olofsson, has been designed to reflect their own personal style. The five-bedroom villa has been decorated in a palette of cool whites with soft, natural fabrics and their own handpicked pieces of furniture and artwork. The interiors of the villa complement its surrounding of pristine white sandy beaches and the couple have had countless palm trees, indigenous vegetation and bushes have also been planted to further enhance the existing beauty of the Island’s flora.

The luxury private villa is off-grid and solar-powered and features a glass rim-flow swimming pool and an impressive indoor aquarium, spa treatments can be arranged as well as off-shore excursions to locate islands. The villa sleeps up to 10 adults, with the option for children sharing.

Eight hectares in size, 1.1 kilometres in circumference and 350m wide, the Island is surrounded by its own private coral reef, with a 1km exclusive-use zone, which can be explored with a snorkel and mask straight from the beach. Depending on the season, guests can watch turtles nesting and their eggs hatching, spot whale sharks who are known to congregate off the south of the Island and also  see the endangered dugong while scuba diving.

Exclusive use of Thanda Island is offered at US$10,000 per night, with a minimum stay of 3-7 nights depending on the season. This is an all-inclusive rate that includes the team of dedicated staff, boat transfers from Mafia Island and all the activities offered on the Island, along with all meals and drinks including Thanda’s handpicked selection of wines and champagnes. Spa treatments, diving and exclusive wines and champagnes are extra.
