There is so much going on in the capital this year that we feel a separate story coming on...soon. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime W London is the 2011 front runner in the cool stakes. It opens on February 14th ,which could be corny but somehow isn't. In fact we're in love with this place already and we haven't even stayed there yet (expect a review soon after opening). The love affair might be something to do with the fact that it is the first hotel in the world to have a movie written and directed especially for it ,starring super model-turned photographer Helena Christensen, David Gandy and a hip assortment of cool Brittania types. Away We Stay was written and directed by Edoardo Ponti in homage to the 1966 film classic Blow Up produced by his father Carlo Ponti. Check out our preview.

 

W London-Leicester Square is on Wardour Street, at the heart of the British film industry (what premiere hasn't played Leicester Square) and it has its own screening room too so it is a fitting hotel to shoot a movie about. it is also in the heart of theatreland so expect an assortment of film and celebrity types to mix with the theatre luvvies in the W Lounge.

 

The hotel's 192 guestrooms all have plush pillow-top beds, terry robes, 350-thread count sheets and Bliss bath products. We love the names of the suites, even though we've heard them all before in other W Hotels  Sometimes blowing your own trumpet works; who can resist a stay in one of five Fantastic Suites, two Marvellous Suites, or one of the three Wow Suites or the E (for 'extreme') Wow suite. PIty the three poor Spa Suites and seven Studio Suites with their oh-so-boring names. There will also be as a signature spa , a XYZ gourmet restaurant (they must have got sick of using the letter 'W') and the usual Whatever/Whenever® (sic) service.
