Anantara has had some
spectacular new openings recently .And this one, perched like a hawk’s nest on the rim of a canyon in Oman, is no exception. At the edge of the Saiq Plateau on Oman’s fabled Green Mountain, over 2000m above sea level Anantara Jabal Al Akhdar will be the highest five-star resort in the Middle East (and claims to be the second highest in the world).
Rooms and villas will have garden vistas or breathtaking views of the vast panorama of canyons and ridges in the Al Hajar Mountains the Architecture pays tribute to the mountaintop terrain and incorporates iconic motifs from Oman’s forts and castles.
The Arabian grill is houses in tower and there is also an Italian restaurant but TLTB particularly likes the idea of dining on a platform at the canyon’s edge. There will also an infinity pool, and a spa offering ancient hammam rituals. At the weekend the hotel courtyard transforms magically into an Arabian marketplace, as if by the rub of a Genie’s lamp.
The resort is a two-hour drive from Muscat International Airport and around four and a half hours from Dubai (an entry point for many).
Also in the Radar: Anantara Qiandao Lake Resort & Spa, China and Anantara Kalutara Resort both opening 2016.
