The Luxury Travel Bible - OPEN PASSPORT: Rachel McAdams

OPEN PASSPORT: Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams recently seen starring in Woody Allen's latest hit 'Midnight in Paris'. The film also starring Owen Wilson, Michael Sheen and Carla Bruni was the opening film of the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

Rachel is one of the most diverse actresses around. Films to her name range from romantic drama 'The Notebook' and 'The Vow', to comedy, 'The Wedding Crashers' and has reprised her role as Irene Adler in the latest installment of Guy Richie's 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'.

When she takes a role she's practically chameleonic and it's difficult to recognise her from photographs and films. But that suits Rachel just fine since it means that most of the time she's pretty much anonymous. " Most of the time, people will just pass me by," she says. "Or if they do realise it's me, they'll say something along the lines of: 'My girlfriend said it was you but I didn't believe her'". Of course, it also means that she can carry on about her daily business with a relative air of normality.

Having a base in her native Canada helps, because she finds there isn't the same degree of hysteria associated with somewhere like Los Angeles.

Consequently, Rachel likes to get out and about in Ontario and Toronto. Some of her preferred hang-outs include The London Taphouse Bar on Richmond Street in London, Ontario, and the Avenue Bar at the Four Seasons in Toronto, as well as Grace Restaurant on College Street in the city.

Despite been spotted at Hal's Bar and Grill in Venice Beach, Los Angeles and Little Giant on Orchard Street, New York, Rachel insists that the traditional dating scene doesn't really suit her.

"Going someplace new or a new part of the city, something that's not your average kind of thing. Something where the both of us can have an adventure together"

"I like to go on really different types of dates," she says. "Going someplace new or a new part of the city, something that's not your average kind of thing. Something where the both of us can have an adventure together." Perhaps Rachel's co-star and rumoured new beau Michael Sheen can take her to discover his native Wales.

While many of those in Rachel's business like to spend their money on status symbols and acquiring material possessions, Rachel prefers to spend her money a little differently. "I don't really desire things," she explains. "I prefer to spend my money on experiences, on meals or travel."

She's lucky in that her job feeds her travel obsession by taking her to places the all over the world. When she was  in London for the premiere of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, Rachel did what any self-respecting girl would do and hit the West End shops.
